Carbon Monoxide Alarms – Keep Your Family Safe

One of the main items that people forget to buy when getting a stove is a Carbon Monoxide Alarm.

“Why do I need one?” you may ask yourself!

Well the simple reason is that it can save a life.

As part of the combustion process logs, coal and coke produce a number of gases on of them being Carbon Monoxide (CO).

In a fire with a good flow of oxygen the CO is burnt and causes no issues, but where the room is sealed and no air can enter there can be a potential issue.

Carbon Monoxide is an odourless and colourless gas that can give flu like symptoms and even kill.

The only true way of detecting this is by using a “Carbon Monoxide Detector”. these are nice and cheap to purchase when you consider the full outlay of installing a stove.

In fact in October 2010 it became mandatory to fit a Carbon Monoxide Alarm with all new stove installations.

We have put together a number of detectors for purchase that range in functions and price.

They can be found here Carbon Monoxide Alarms.

I have also included some advice sheets that can be downloaded as a PDF ducument.

This one is produced by HETAS which is the official body recognised by Government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services including the registration of competent installers and servicing businesses.
